Blog 15: Resources

A box. Used quite formally to hold collections, in a black rimmed box, with a glass top. A resources because it helps create.

A very large printer! Obviously a resource.

Cabinets, to hold things.
Drawing table, to create signs. This was at the sign makeers.

And all the books! (I put them up there, with a ladder...)

BLog 14: Mark Quint

My mentor is Mark Quint, he is the owner of Quint Gallery in La Jolla.

One of the interesting things I found out about him was that he used to be an artist himself! I sort of suspected that, but I was not sure. Also that he likes art when people stick with a concept and try to resolve something, like this one artist who painted just numbers on a canvas, and he started with one and is now at very high numbers. I also learned that Mark used to teach art, to small children, in Hawaii! He is very interesting.

Blog 11 cont.

There is a new highlight! I made a little rolling shelf piece, I screwed screws and put on wheels and everything! It was really fun, figuring it all out and everything. The instructions had no words, only pictures, so it took some thinking. But it was like building a model airplane orsomething. Very fun. New highlight.

Also, I had a very good apple.

My week went by quite fast! Well, it was only four days, but it seemed like two. Maybe it was the rain...

I alphabetized record books, and put them on a shelf. We also had to get a new shelf, and put it together! And climb a ladder. Climbing the ladder was a highlight, I think, because it was very high up and the lights were very warm. Also looking through all the art books when we were putting them on the shelves. I also got to see some wonderful glasses and whistles. I like old glasses a lot.

Challenges, were, perhaps, trying to find things to do when I was not given a specific task. But I found a lot to do, and had a good week!

I also interviewed Mark Quint! I learned some quite interesting things, like he did his own art! I did not know that! I would like to see some...

Also, Joshua came to visit! That was nice, he talked to Mark and I, and it was quite lovely to see someone from school again.

The end.

Also, a last thing is, that I had some good soup for lunch yesterday.

Mark Quint started the gallery in 1981, and later in 1990 began a residency program with Michael Krichman. He also has a store at LUX called Specimen, they have lots of interesting things like teeth and tiny trees.

I will talk to Mark about background information tomorrow and edit...

Some good qualities I see in people I've been around throughout internship are perseverance and creativity. I saw both of these when I was looking for feedback for the label I designed. Mark persevered to keep making revisions until the label was as perfect as it could be, and through this process was creative in finding new ways that we could improve the label. I also admire the openness everyone at the gallery has to new ideas, not only in art but in advertising and thinking in general.
